LU Harlem Shake

The Harlem Shake has spread to students at Lindenwood University. If you have not already heard of the Harlem Shake, it is a song and dance that thousands of people all over the world have remixed and posted on YouTube for all to see.

Lindenwood student Malach Radigan explains why he wanted Lindenwood to participate in this cultural phenomenon. “We just want to find a way to make the Lindenwood environment fun for everybody and so this is something just kinda spur of the moment, just kind of a last minute type deal.”

The Harlem Shake is focused towards Lindenwood athletes, trying to get the Lindenwood community together a little bit.

“we contacted head coaches and girls and guys who are the face of their program,” said Radigan, “so we you know encouraged them to get their whole team out and come crazy, come dressed up.”

Radigan was also able to get more students involved with the help of social media.

Donnie Jennert said, “I retweet Malach’s tweets, so a lot of Twitter stuff.”

Students walking around in funny costumes are main component to the Harlme dance videos. Students began to show up to the Evans Commons at 8 p.m. on Monday in full costume. Some costumes took a little more work than others like Scott Criscione’s costume made entirely from Dorito’s bags.

“I got inspired by the super bowl commercial that had this, so i made one,” said Criscione. “I ate so many bags that i can’t eat doritos anymore without getting sick because i probably had way too many of them.”

Students had a lot of fun shaking their stuff to the famous song while wearing their costumes.

“I’m pumped, I’m extremely pumped,” said Jennert. “I don’t know if you can tell by my face but I’m pumped.”

Criscione said, “knowing my boys over here, we usually get pretty rowdy as it is, so getting to go wilin out for a good minute plus is definitely going to be fun to do.
