Yet wide awake and
Watching you sleep.

Breath
Soft;
Steady;
Easy;
Rhythmic;
Natural.
Eyes
Closed so peacefully;
Your body radiating warmth.
I am safe here,
Loved beyond all measure,
Happy,
Secure.
Tears
Burn my eyes as I lay silent
Simply taking you in.
Capturing a moving picture,
Committing it to memory,
Determined to keep you with me,
Terrified if I sleep
I’ll wake and you’ll have been
Just a dream.
Taking a deep breath
I force my breathing to match yours.
My heart slows,
Beats in time with yours.
And I lay there,
