The spring of 2014 was filled with good news for LU student life sports. Throughout the semester, many of the LU athletic teams qualified for national competitions and brought home a winner. Because of the multiple winnings, LU’s athletics are becoming more well known, according to Junior Christie Sielfleisch.

“I have always known our athletic department was outstanding,” Sielfleisch said. “But now some of my family members and friends from other schools are starting to comment on LU sports teams. My dad and brother even drove all the way to campus to watch a soccer game.”

Four teams ended their seasons as national champions.

For the first time after 34 years, neither Stanford nor Ohio State University won the synchronized swimming title.

  • The lady lions dove into the Miami University pool in Oxford, Ohio, and brought home the national title.

Other sports also did well in the spring semester.

  • Cycling achieved second place during the national championship in Richmond, Virginia. Brandon Feehery, one of the riders, got the men’s criterium–a one-day bicycle race on a circuit road course–and overall individual omnium–a track cycling competition consisting of a number of contests of different types, both races and time trials.
