Men’s soccer defeats Missouri S&T

Daniel Rottlaender | Staff Reporter

After a 1-1 draw against University of Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday night, the Lions faced Missouri S&T in Rolla, defeating them 2-1 in extra time. LU was determined to earn the first win of the season and took control of the match very fast. They moved the ball forward and attacked far in Missouri’s half.

Consequentially, a Missouri defender lost the ball in the box and Andre Hayne scored out of 10 yards to give the Lions the lead after 26 minutes, which has also been the half-time score. The Lions ended up with 10 shots and 8 fouls, which proves that LU was the more active team in the first half.

In the second half, the Lions took it a little easier without losing the focus on defending the own box. LU kept dangerous through counterattacks. Missouri S&T tried to tie the match but was unable to create dangerous possibilities except for a shot of Ryan Lawhead in the 78th minute which was blocked by the Lions’ defense. However, the Lions kept dangerous and had two good possibilities through Andre Hayne to expand the lead.
