Surviving a second half comeback, the men’s basketball team defeated Quincy University in a 74-73 nail biter, Saturday afternoon.
The Lions held a comfortable lead throughout the duration of the first half, shooting just under 46 percent from the floor. Nick Van Osdale led the offensive effort with 10 points, along with Nick Carlos who made both of his attempted three-pointers.
At the half the score sat at 38-30 in favor of the Lions.
Just 29 seconds left in the game, the Hawks’ Evan McGaughey sank two free-throws to give his team their first lead of the game, with the score sitting at 73-71.
With time running out the Lions placed the ball in the hand of Chanse Creekmur and let his experience speak for itself. Taking a shot from behind the arc, he delivered the dagger with just 16 seconds remaining in the contest.
Making his way to the other end of the court, Creekmur would put a stop to the Hawks last chance effort, blocking a jumper by Evan McGaughey as the final buzzer sounded.
The Lions now move to 2-2 overall and will return home to face University of Illinois-Springfield on Nov. 26.
