Lindenwood University student Isaiah Kozak from British Columbia died in his residence after “taking his own life,” according to an email sent to Lindenwood employees by Christopher Duggan, the university’s public relations coordinator.

The 20-year-old student was found dead Tuesday afternoon in a dormitory on the campus of Lindenwood University, according to Capt. Dan Casey of the St. Charles Fire Department.

Emergency personnel received a call about the incident at 3:42 p.m., and responded to Reynolds Hall, Casey said.

Lindenwood Public Safety & Security was already on scene when the St. Charles Police Department and fire department arrived.

Scott Queen, executive director of marketing and communications at Lindenwood, confirmed there had been a death on campus but declined to provide any other details for the time being.

According to Lindenwood’s athletic website, Kozak was a member of the men’s lacrosse team and an athletic training major.

The men’s lacrosse coach commented on Kozak’s “remarkable affinity for his friends, team members, and university,” according to the email.

The email also encouraged anyone struggling with these issues to contact the Student Counseling and Resource Center on the third floor of Evans Commons.

Members from the campus organization Athletes in Action hosted a prayer service at 2 p.m. at the gazebo for Kozak and the men’s lacrosse team. The group is a Christian based sports ministry.

“Athletes in Action, myself and other leaders wanted to give people a chance to cry out to God and for them to be comforted by the Lord to ask for his guidance in this time,” said Brennan Dooley, a member of the organization.

The lacrosse team held a gathering in remembrance of Kozak at 3 p.m. in Hunter Stadium.

Student counseling services are available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or after hours by appointment. The Counseling Center can be reached at (636) 949-4525.
