Lindenwood students are set to showcase their musical talents as part of March Music Week at the J. Scheidegger Center.

The week will kick off with a performance by the university’s symphonic band on March 21. The school’s orchestra, choir and jazz band will also hold concerts throughout the week.

According to Assistant Professor of Music, Matthew Hoormann, March Music Week is one of the few opportunities the student ensembles have to share their work with the campus and outside community.

“This week is really valuable for our students,” said Hoormann. “It is important that they have this experience under their belts.”

Along with the group performances, several unique works will be featured on the concert programs. The orchestra will spotlight two soloists, cello player Kymbre Ressler and singer Will Macarthy.

“We are also going to be featuring two student soloists which is something we haven’t really done in the past,” said Jeffrey Baurdin, conductor of the Lindenwood orchestra . “Since we are growing in size we are able to experiment with stuff like this.”

The concerts will include a wide variety of music genes, as well as pieces from numerous time periods. Associate Professor of Music, Ryan Curtis says the week serves as the perfect chance for people to see what the university’s music program is all about.

“If there are some students or faculty that have not heard our groups besides what they hear at the basketball and football games, it’s a different experience that I think they will really enjoy,” said Curtis. “I encourage everyone to come hear something this week.”

March Music Week runs March 21-28. All concerts are scheduled to begin at 7:30 and admission is free. Students as well as the public are welcome to attend. For a full schedule of the week’s events, click here.
