A campus blood drive brought out at least one donor yesterday who wanted to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Megan Cottet, an instructor with the School of Health Sciences, said she is a frequent donor, but news of the record rainfall in Houston gave her an extra incentive to donate.

“It’s one of the easiest things one can do to give back,” she said.

The Red Cross, which will continue the blood drive at Lindenwood today, has an urgent need for blood donations caused by a summer decline in blood donors and drives as well as the Texas disaster, according to its website.

The drive will be from noon until 5 p.m. downstairs in Evans Commons. Donors will  be emailed a $5 gift certificate they can use at merchants like Target, Panera Bread, CVS Pharmacy or Amazon.com.

Tim Schwann, a Lindenwood alumnus and donor recruitment manager, said that as of late Tuesday, 27 people had donated.

“Most of them were Lindenwood students,” he said. “We wish it was more because there is a great population here.”

Anyone who can’t donate on campus is encourage to call the Red Cross on 1800-RED CROSS or visit www.redcrossblood.org to schedule an appointment, Schwann said.
