The Lindenwood women’s volleyball team dropped its home opener Saturday to Missouri Western in four sets.

The Lions won the first set 25-22 in a tight battle but dropped the next three sets 16-25, 24-26, 22-25.

Freshman Sadie Kosciuk had a leading role for the Lions, tallying a career-high 12 kills while hitting .320.

Kosciuk has only featured in seven of the Lions 14 games this year but was cast into a starting role as Junior Alex Bogusz was unable to play due to injury.

Bogusz injured her ankle in practice on Thursday. The extent of the injury is yet to be determined.

Alex Dahlstrom, Emily Wylie and Bailey Dvorak were also strong on the offensive side, tallying 14, 12 and 9 kills respectively.

Wylie currently leads the team in kills and hitting percentage with 134 and .274 respectively.

“We did a good job staying aggressive throughout the whole match,” said Megan Hellwege. “We can improve on missed serves and connection issues, but that will get cleaned up as we spent more time together on the court.”
