The Lindenwood women’s volleyball team (8-8) will look to end its six-game skid with its first MIAA road trip against Emporia State and Washburn University this weekend.

The Lions will take on the Emporia State Hornets (9-6) at 6 p.m. on Friday night. The Hornets started the season 0-3 but have since won nine of their last 12 games.

On Saturday, the Lions face the Washburn Ichabods (10-5) at 3 p.m. The Ichabods finished with a record of 28-6 in 2016 and are perennial contenders in the MIAA.

The Lions started the season 8-2 before dropping their last six games in a row.

To make matters worse, starting middle hitter Alex Bogusz was injured last week in practice. The junior suffered an ankle sprain and a foot fracture.

Freshman Sadie Kosciuk has stepped up in Bogusz’s absence, recording 32 kills and hitting 0.322 through her first three college starts.

Emily Wylie currently leads the Lions on offense with 157 kills. The 6-foot-4 senior transferred from Armstrong State this year.

“We just need to simplify the game by applying all the new skills we’ve learned in practice,” setter Ally Clancy said. “The coaches are great about giving us scouting reports and keys to success. This weekend our main goal is to apply everything.”
