The Student Council for Exceptional Children is currently seeking officers and representation for their organization at Lindenwood Student Government meetings.

Members of the group are invited to attend conferences and participate in campus activities, and will have the opportunity to attend annual Council for Exceptional Children conferences each spring. In the past, conferences have been held in Seattle, Washington, Kansas City, Missouri, and Baltimore, Maryland.

Positions available include president and vice president, but Education Professor Rebecca Panagos said that the most important position needed is a representative to attend the weekly LSG meetings on Wednesdays from 4-5 p.m. in Dunseth Auditorium in Harmon Hall in order for the SCEC to stay active.

“Many of our members are teachers, but they can also teach sign language. They are deaf education teachers, they are speech and language teachers and even occupational therapists,” Panagos said.

The organization has participated in large events in the past, including the Autism Speaks Walk and the Special Olympics.

“I need officers, I need members, I need anybody who is wanting to go on Wednesdays from 4-5 to the student government meetings,” Panagos said. “There’s something for everyone to do.”

Panagos said that SCEC is very special to her. It’s an organization that is recognized on campus and has been since 1997. She said she doesn’t want to lose it.

For more information on the organization and to find out how to be apart of the SCEC, email Rebecca Panagos at [email protected].
