The Lindenwood women’s volleyball team (14-9) defeated Fort Hays State (9-14) 3-0 on Friday night before falling to No. 8 Nebraska-Kearney (20-2) on Saturday.

The loss to Nebraska-Kearney snapped Lindenwood’s six-game winning streak. The Lions had won eight straight sets before the loss.

Emily Wylie led the team on offense with 20 kills over the weekend. Wylie had 14 kills against Nebraska-Kearney and six against Fort Hays State.

Freshman Sadie Kosciuk recorded 14 kills over the weekend. Kosciuk continues to shine after being thrust into the starting lineup after Alex Bogusz’s ankle injury. The 6-foot-4 middle hitter is hitting a team-leading .350 on the season.

The Lions have already eclipsed last year’s wins total. In 2016 the team went 11-19. With nine games left in the season, the Lions have to win just two more games to put together the most successful Lindenwood women’s volleyball season in Lindenwood’s NCAA history.

“Saturday was a little disappointing,” Lindenwood volleyball player Megan Hellwege said. “We did some good things, mainly held them to a lower than their average hitting percentage, but we had too many unforced errors. So if we clean up our side of the net, I believe it’s a different ball game.”

The Lions will face a tough test when they go up against  No. 7 Central Oklahoma at 6 p.m on Friday, Oct 20, at home in Hyland Arena.
