At the beginning of the 2017-2018 ACHA Division I ice hockey season, the Lindenwood Lions matched up against the University of Oklahoma Sooners at the Blazers Ice Center in Oklahoma City. This weekend, the Lions will face the Sooners yet again, this time at the Wentzville Ice Arena Friday and Saturday.

When the two teams met on Sept. 22 and 23, the scores both came out in favor of Lindenwood. Lindenwood earned its first shutout of the season with a 3-0 win against the Sooners and outshot them 42-22 with goals from Tommy Heinzman, Jordan Klimovsky and Brad Edwards.

The second game on Sept. 23 saw more goal scoring from the opponent with two unanswered goals from the Sooners early in the first period and one during the second period, but Lindenwood emerged victorious with the final score of 5-3. The Lions saw goals from Edwards, Dom Kolbeins with his first collegiate goal, Cade Owad, Nick Greene and Heinzman.

Lindenwood’s first two wins of the season gave the University of Oklahoma its fourth straight loss, according to Lindenwood Student Life Sports.

Klimovsky, who had a goal and an assist during the last matchup between the two teams commented, said, “We prepare every weekend as much as we need, and we want to keep improving and getting better as a team. They are a different team from when we last played them and so are we, so we aren’t going to take them lightly.”

As for his own performance, he added, “I’m just looking to produce and contribute to my team to ultimately help secure two wins this weekend.”

The Lions will face off at the Wentzville Ice Arena at 7 p.m. on Friday evening and at 4 p.m. on Saturday evening.
