Second-half struggles lead to Lions loss against Central Missouri

The women’s basketball team lost its 12th game of the season to conference opponent Central Missouri Saturday afternoon 73-60 at Hyland Arena.

The game was close throughout as the Jennies had a one-point lead going into halftime. Lindenwood shot 41.4 percent from the field in the first half as Central Missouri shot 31.3 percent. However, the Jennies made nine of 10 free-throw attempts to remain in the lead.

Lindenwood struggled from the field in the second half only shooting 36 percent. The Lions also struggled from the free-throw line. The Lions shot 9-15 from the free-throw line for a low 60 percent.

The Lions had three players scoring in double figures. Guard Jerricah Butler finished the game with 12 points on an efficient 4-7 from the field, while guard Lindsay Medlen tallied 13 points on 5-13 shooting including a couple bank shot 3-pointers. Forward Kallie Bildner scored 11 points on 5-9 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.

Lindenwood’s turnovers were costly. The Lions committed 18 turnovers which turned into 14 points for the Jennies, while Central Missouri committed 11 turnovers which turned into just eight points for Lindenwood.

“We allowed their physicality to get in our heads,” Bildner said. “We have to put the game behind us and look beyond. Once next Monday comes, it’s do or die.”

Following Saturday’s loss, the Lions fall to 14-12 on the season and will play its next game against conference opponent Northwest Missouri at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at Hyland Arena.
