Weekend sports round-up: basketball wins on senior night, ice hockey wins conference tournament championship

Baseball

  • The Lions won two out of three games against Northeastern State to win the first MIAA series of the season over the weekend. Ian Nelson and Neil Fischer batted in 10 of the Lions 13 runs over the weekend.

Men’s Basketball

  • The Lions led the entire game on Saturday, Feb. 24, to win against Missouri Western 88-70 at Hyland Arena. The team honored senior Landon Mills prior to the game.

Women’s Basketball

  • Kallie Bildner was named to the All-MIAA second team. Bildner is currently averaging 17.8 points and 11.9 rebounds per game.
  • The women’s basketball team finished its regular season with a home win against conference opponent Missouri Western 61-50 on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Hyland Arena.

Men’s Ice Hockey

  • The D1 men’s ice hockey team won the Central States Collegiate Hockey League conference tournament championship Feb. 25 at the Bird Arena in Athens, Ohio. The No. 1 Lions faced Iowa State and the University of Illinois to capture the title.

Men’s Volleyball

  • The Lions lost against the Mastodons of Fort Wayne University on Friday, Feb. 23 at Hyland Arena in five sets.
  • The Lindenwood men’s volleyball team got defeated by the Cardinals Saturday, Feb. 24 at Hyland Arena after five sets. This is the seventh loss in a row for the Lions.

Wrestling

  • The wrestling team will send three Lions, Jake Borgmeyer, Carlos Jacquez and Nate Trepanier, to the NCAA Division ll National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 9-10. 

Women’s swimming and diving

  • The swimming and diving teams competed in Cleveland, Mississippi, at the NSISC Championships. The women clinched their second straight Conference Championship and the men finished in second.

Gymnastics

  • Seniors Kierstin Sokolowski and Kayla McMullan led the gymnastics team to their highest score of the season against Iowa State and Illinois State with 195.175 points on Sunday afternoon in Hyland Arena.
