The Student Involvement Office is home to those who go by the name “Cabbies,” and is also where ideas are turned into events.
Cabbies are the official members of Lindenwood University’s Campus Activities Board. They are responsible for planning several Lindenwood-sponsored events throughout the academic year.
Most students are unaware of how much goes into planning a campus event, executive event coordinator Tara LeClere said.
“Let’s say an event is on campus; we have to figure out where we’re going to have it, what time it’ll be, get the space approved, request tables and chairs from storage, as well as deal with any budgeting and putting in fund requests for anything we need to order,” she said.
LeClere described how yellow checklist folders are lifesavers when it comes to planning.
“They help us keep everything in check and have the due dates of everything within an event,” she said.
Fortunately, four new Cabbies have joined to provide input and assistance to the team.
The board welcomes students to apply and even volunteer at their events. LeClere said that CAB greatly influenced to her to step outside her comfort zone and branch out.
“You meet a lot of people you normally wouldn’t,” she said. “Different events attract different types of people.”
Several annual as well as brand-new events are on the agenda this year for the Campus Activities Board.
“Better Yourself Week,” will be the first week of October. It will feature massages at lunch, a ‘Munch n Mingle,’ glow in the dark yoga, which happened last semester before finals week, and more.
