Here is a summary of important events in Lindenwood sports this past week and the upcoming home games to anticipate.

It was an eventful week in Lindenwood athletics. Four of the Lions’ five fall sports teams were in action, with the week truly kicking off on the weekend as there were six games played featuring Lindenwood teams. From high-scoring primetime clashes to dramatic victories, there was plenty that could have been missed from the previous week.

Games You Missed

FOOTBALL: On Family Day, the Lions fell to the Central Oklahoma Bronchos 52-42. It’s the most points that the team has given up all season, allowing 436 total yards on the night. Offensively, Lindenwood quarterback Cade Brister had a busy day, throwing the ball 46 times for 277 yards and two touchdowns, while also tossing two interceptions.

WOMEN’S SOCCER: After entering the week on a two-game winning streak, the Lions dropped two straight games to the Missouri Western State Griffions and the Central Missouri Jennies. Olivia Callipari was Lindenwood’s lone scorer of the week, who now has two goals in the season. The Jennies were the number one ranked team in all of division two women’s soccer, and defeated the Lions 3-0 on Sunday.

MEN’S SOCCER: In their lone game of the week, the men’s soccer team won a thriller over the Harding University Bisons in overtime 3-2. Trailing 2-1 with 15 minutes left in the game, Fernando Cordero sent a free-kick off the right post, which led to a rebound that fell to Johannes Brendle who found the back of the net and tied the game at 2-2. Just over a minute into overtime, another Cordero set piece led to a Gaspar Alvarez goal that gave Lindenwood the win, and Harding’s first loss this season.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: By scores of 0-3 and 1-3, the women’s volleyball team suffered two defeats this weekend. The first came against Northwest Missouri State, the team’s first MIAA conference game. Then on Saturday, the Lions fell to Missouri Western State, which dropped its record to 8-4 on the year.

MEN’S GOLF: In Warrensburg, Missouri, the Lions men’s golf team participated in the Mule Invitational. Lindenwood finished fifth out of 16 teams, being led by Yente Van Doren who shot 7 under and  203 on the week. Washburn University finished first at the invitational, shooting a combined 845, one stroke lower than second place Central Missouri.

WOMEN’S GOLF: Lindenwood’s women’s golf team took part in the 20th annual Northeastern State University Golf Classic. Out of 18 teams, the Lions finished 11th, shooting a total 633, which was 55 over par. Oklahoma Christian University held the top spot at the tournament, finishing just 18 over par with a 594 score on the day.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: The Lions went down to Joplin, Missouri, on Saturday to run in the 2018 Southern Stampede. Lindenwood ranked 17th at the end of the race, with Austin Crowe being the standout runner. Crowe was sixth overall with a 25:10:01 time on the day.
