Sophomore Michael Coffey had arguably the best season in Lindenwood bowling history. He was a 1st Team All-American and was the first bowler in Lindenwood’s history to win MVP by the NCBCA and Player of the Year from the IBMA.

Coffey’s first month and a half of the season started off Hot. He made the first five All-Tournament teams and then started to get self conscious about it as it got in his head. But after a couple of events, he got back on track and set a record at an event in Kentucky.

“I averaged 255 at one of the tournaments to set a record for Lindenwood’s individual bowling,” Coffey said.

In order to be selected for an All-Tournament team, bowlers have place in the top five for total pins knocked down in team games. In the 14 tournaments Lindenwood competed in this season, Coffey finished on the All-Tournament Team in nine..

Though it is a team effort, Lindenwood Head Coach Phil Vida said that Coffey was still one of the top performers.

“Just about every tournament we bowled, he was one of the top performers not only on our team, but in the whole field,” said Vita.

Men’s Coach Randy Lightfoot said that Coffey’s performance was astounding.

“[It was] pretty amazing to watch his performance in tier ones,” said Lightfoot. “I think he had four tournaments where he had four tournaments where he was in the top six of five. ”

Last year, Coffey earned National Player Rookie of the Year and the coveted Teen Masters award.

After he graduates from college, Coffey says he plans on joining the PBA tour.
