Lindenwood’s biggest football alumnus has found a new home.
Last Sunday, Pierre Desir officially signed a one-year, $72,000 contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
While this deal puts Desir temporarily on the Ravens’ practice squad, this signing not only gives Baltimore added depth during a COVID-filled season, but an experienced defensive back with low-risk, high-reward chances.
In this past offseason, the New York Jets signed Desir to a one-year, $3.75 million deal, but cut him after only nine games with the organization.
For New York, older players are not needed at the moment. The winless Jets are currently shooting for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Cutting veteran players like Desir will give their younger players an opportunity, while also saving their team some needed cap space for the upcoming future.
With the Jets, Desir finished with 47 total tackles, eight passes defensed, and three interceptions.
However, Desir’s tenure with New York will be remembered by his primetime performance on Thursday Night Football in Week 4. Playing against the Denver Broncos, Desir finished with eight tackles, two passes defensed, two interceptions, and a defensive return touchdown.
For the Ravens, Desir now gets an opportunity to showcase his abilities for a franchise who is directly mixed in the AFC playoff hunt. With a 6-4 record, the Ravens are only one-game out from qualifying for a Wild Card bid.
