Lindenwood alumni and Major League Baseball player Geoff Hartlieb has found a new home for the 2025 season, as the pitcher has signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees.
Hartlieb spent the 2024 season with the Colorado Rockies organization, appearing in five games over the course of the season. The 30-year-old pitched in nine innings, to the tune of a 9.00 ERA and striking out seven different hitters. Among those five games included a stop in Busch Stadium on June 9, where he pitched two innings, allowing one run, and striking out Michael Siani and Dylan Carlson. Each of his five games came in the month of June, and he was designated for assignment on June 22.
For the bulk of the 2024 season, however, Hartlieb pitched with the Rockies AAA affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes. He had an ERA of 5.47 in 41 games, pitching in 54 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. For his career, Hartlieb has spent parts of five seasons at the major league level with the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets, Miami Marlins, and the Rockies. He has a career ERA of 7.37 in 64 games, over 79 innings pitched.
Looking ahead towards the future, Hartlieb will join a Yankees organization that is currently participating in the 2024 World Series. Given the early outlook of the offseason, it’s hard to define a clear role for him in 2025. The Yankees are known for frequent bullpen shifting, as many teams are in the modern era of baseball. One thing is for sure, Hartlieb will head to Tampa, Florida in the spring to compete for a spot on the team’s Opening Day roster.
As for his time at Lindenwood, Hartlieb pitched at Lindenwood from 2014-16, appearing in 40 games over that time before being selected by the Pirates in the 29th round of the 2016 draft.
