Two jerseys hang on the wall outside of the Lindenwood Student Athlete Academic Success Center. One belongs to former LU football player and Super Bowl champion DeDe Dorsey. The other is a Brian Schaefering jersey.
Schaefering, a defensive tackle, was signed by the Dallas Cowboys Monday night. Schaegering’s signing fills the spot on the Cowboys’ 53-man roster created when they placed Josh Brent on the non-football injury list earlier Monday.
Brent was arrested for intoxication manslaughter last week. He was driving with late Cowboy Jerry Brown in the passenger seat when their car crashed. Brown died shortly after.
Schaefering also spent some of his college career at the University of Illinois. He played 2009-’11 with the Cleveland Browns after signing as an undrafted free agent. He played 37 games with the Browns and had 52 tackles and two sacks.
The Browns released Schaefering in 2011. He was not on a NFL 53-man roster last season.
