The_blue_noteHalfway between St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri is a town called Columbia. Many know it as the home of the University of Missouri or Mizzou, but many may not realize all that Columbia has to offer to both St. Louis and Kansas City residents.

One of the features that Columbia has to offer is venue The Blue Note located on Ninth St. in the downtown portion of the township. With its proximity to the MU campus and Columbia’s ability to be a meeting ground between the largest cities in the state, nearly a two hour drive either way, The Blue Note has some leverage to bring in some substantial acts to the area drawing in fans from all over Missouri.

The venue, established in 1980, has brought the musical likes of REM, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash and many more. With a capacity of 835, the venue is intimate while still being able to hold a decent sized crowd. The Blue Note has two main levels for spectators to view the show from. On the main level is a floor area located right in front of the stage with a bar at the very back. The upper level offers balcony style seating with a few tables and chairs mixed in as well. Behind the balcony is a second bar separate from the rest of venue. Whatever the seating preference all fans can be accommodated.

If you plan on attending a show at The Blue Note, here are some tips to keep in mind based on the venue’s FAQ from their website:

1. Be careful where you park. There are several garages and lots located in the downtown area and there are several meters. Just make sure to bring cash since many of these places will charge you.

2. If you want to take pictures, check with the performer’s website. The venue follows an artist by artist policy when it comes to cameras.

3. Only bring food or drink that can be easily thrown away before entering the venue since The Blue Note does not allow outside food and drink.

4. If you are under 21 you will be asked to pay a minor surcharge of $2 and you will not be allowed to re-enter the venue if you leave during the show at any time.

5. It is a smoke-free venue, so leave your cigarettes in the car. For more information on The Blue Note give their website a peek before you head to the show.
