Historic Saint Charles has become part of the global treasure hunt game known as “geocaching.” Geowoodstock XII was open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on May 24. The event was organized to entertain the whole community of cachers and non-cachers.

The geocaching game consists of participants looking for treasures that have been hidden by other participants all over the world. In order to find the treasures, people use GPS devices. Also, participants can use a website in which they get coordinates that get them into the hunt.

Cachers travel every year with their families to participate in the event. The Turner family is a four member team known as “Renruts” who, they say, enjoy the treasure hunt game. They all take part in the event by traveling from Pittsburg.

“We all have been doing this for ten years,” said Kerry Turner. “My son Kasey has been traveling with us since he was two years-old.”

Geowoodstock is an event that unites people from all over the world. It is an occurrence that can be experienced by every member of the family.

“It’s not all about the treasures we find, it’s more about the fun we have,” Turner said.

There are also people like Carl Gage who has been taking part in these events since 2008 to sell his work. He sells woodworks in which cachers can put in their found collections. Cage said that he really enjoys the geocaching and he is expecting to keep doing it for many more years.
