Music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha’s biannual American Music Recital took place on Sibley Day at 3 p.m. at Jelkyl Theatre in Roemer Hall. However, this time the fraternity tried something new with their event by setting up a “Sinfonian Game Show” for the first time. The main idea was to get two teams of three from the audience to test their knowledge on music. Participants were lured in to be part of the game in order to win candy.

“We wanted to try something new,” said fraternity brother and host of the show Joe Fritz, in response to why they decided to make the event game show instead of their traditional performance recital.

Contestants participated in three rounds. In the first game, the participants had to “Name that Tune,” in the second they played “Guess the Lyrics” by filling in missing blanks of well-known songs and the third was a game of music trivia. The games involved questions about many mainstream genres and famous artists covering both modern and classic favorites, such as Nicki Minaj, Pharrel Williams, The Beatles and Michael Jackson.

The audience and participants reacted positively to the game. Trevor Michaelson, a senior who participated in the game, said “It was fun, and a good intro to the fraternity and what they stand for.”
