Lindenwood honors faculty excellence with annual awards

The winners of the annual Lindenwood University Faculty Awards were announced Aug. 30 on the university’s website, recognizing four professors for their excellence in teaching, service and scholarship.

“We had a number of outstanding faculty nominated,” Chair of the Faculty Council Stephanie Afful said. “These awards are a reminder of the excellent work our faculty are doing.”

Assistant professor of exercise science Chad Kerksick was selected for the Scholar of the Year Award, which recognizes outstanding scholarly accomplishments outside the university, according to Lindenwood press release. Kerksick started teaching at Lindenwood in 2014. He is a extensively published writer in the areas of aging, weight loss, skeletal muscle physiology, and sports nutrition. He has published two books related to his field.

Associate professor of nonprofit administration Patrick Walker, who joined the faculty in 2012, won the Lindenwood Service Award, which recognizes his work both in and outside of the university. His efforts include seminars for nonprofit organizations and establishing the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee on campus.

Colleen Biri, professor of psychology, was selected for the President’s Scholar-Teacher Award for the use of scholarly research in the classroom. Biri joined the faculty in 2003. She is the faculty advisor for Lindenwood’s chapter of the International Honor Society. She is also a member of the American Psychological Association and the missouri Psychological Association.

Elizabeth Ammann, associate professor of  accounting, recieved the Emerson Award for Teaching Excellence. The award was presented by Emerson Electric Inc., a global manufacturing and technology company based in Ferguson, Missouri. Ammann has been at Lindenwood since 1983, which makes her one of the longest serving faculty members at Lindenwood.
