Delta Zeta won the homecoming lip sync competition for the third year in a row on Oct. 20,  surpassing five other teams with clean choreography, attitude and props.

Hyland Arena was invaded by about 1300 energized students, faculty and fans for what has become one of the most popular events of homecoming.

With the theme being “Out of this World,” there was no shortage of alien- sightings, galaxy spandex and ‘Space Jam’ references.

The event was MC’ed by student Jessica Hodge and Kayla Drake.

The panel of judges consisting of staff members Ryan Guffey, vice president of student development, Amy Johnson, associate dance professor Janet Strzelec and Peter Colombatto, director of marketing and communications for the School of Arts, Media and Communication.

Teams were judged on their acknowledgement of the theme, performance, lip- syncing, energy and audience response.

The Lion Line and the Lionettes claimed second place and the Black Student Union took home third place after winning the crowd over with their ‘Men In Black’ theme.

Fall sports were in attendance as well as the 2016 Homecoming Court in support of the men’s football team who are scheduled to take on Northwest Missouri State Oct. 22 at 1pm.

I couldn’t be more pleased with how last night went. The performances were phenomenal and the energy of the crowd could not be beat. This year’s Lip Sync/Pep Rally was definitely Out of this World!” said Director of Student Life and Leadership Angela Royal.
