The Lindenwood women’s lacrosse team is now ranked No. 2 in the country following a win over previously top-ranked Florida Southern last weekend.

The team has now won each of its first three games this season, all coming against teams currently ranked in the top 20 nationally, according to the latest IWLCA coaches poll.

The team’s next game will also be against a nationally-ranked opponent, 17th-ranked Regis University at home on March 7.

Head Coach Jack Cribbin said he was proud of the start his team has gotten off to this year.

“One big reason for our success is the team has bought into the positive culture,” Cribbin said. “We’ve really tried to embrace seeing the positives in everything.”

He credited the senior leadership on the team for this season’s early successes, specifically the team’s captains, Erin Abbott and Molly Beckham.

“Everyone has bought in,” Cribbin said. “Within this last couple of weeks we have had some historic success. That is a direct reflection to the culture we have built.”

Abbott said the team’s goal is to continue this positive momentum through the rest of the season.

“We intend on staying focused and continuing to get better,” Abbott said.

“I think it’s amazing how far this program has come in my five years at Lindenwood and I am so grateful for the girls who came before me and built the foundation.”

While Cribbin is proud of the ranking his team has earned, he is aware of the target that comes with such a distinction.

“Every game from here on out we will be the highest ranked team our opponents face,” Cribbin said.  “Each game we play in, our opponents now have the opportunity to knock off the No. 2 ranked team in the country.”
