Undergraduate Ceremony

For many students it is the most wonderful time of the year: graduation.

The ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Family Arena in St. Charles.

Commencement will feature graduates from Lindenwood University and Lindenwood University-Belleville.

Academic Services Registrar Christine Hannar said they are expecting 1,000 graduates. Of those, about 135 are from Belleville’s campus.

The schools with the most participants are the School of Accelerated Degree Programs, School of Education and the Plaster School of Business and Entrepreneurship.

Participating graduates have been asked to arrive by 11 a.m. at Gate 4 to check-in. The gate will open at 10:30 a.m.

Students will line up and march in accordance with their schools.

The event is free to the public.

Guest seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guest Gates 1, 2 and 3 also will open at 10:30 a.m.

Graduate Ceremony

Forty-two graduate students are anticipated to take part in a unique ceremony at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, at the Lindenwood University Cultural Center.

“We are holding a hooding ceremony for the first time for our doctoral candidates,” Hannar said.

She said the hooding ceremony is reserved for those who attain the highest degree in their fields beyond the bachelor’s degree. The hood denotes advanced scholarly and professional achievement.

The color of the hood’s lining represents the highest degree held by the wearer, and is made of white and yellow silk. The color of the trim signifies the doctoral student’s field. For instance, education is represented by sky blue.
