Softball loses double header to Central Oklahoma, losing streak hits four

The Lindenwood softball team lost both games, 7-6 and 11-1, in Friday’s double header against conference opponent Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma.

In the first game, Central Oklahoma got the game’s first run but the Lions came back with two runs in the third inning on a two out double from Megan Clark. The offense continued in the fourth inning when Adele Linderman doubled to left center scoring two runs. Linderman then came around to score on a sacrifice fly to right off the bat of Austine Pauley. Central Oklahoma countered with four runs in the bottom of the inning and the game was tied 5-5 going into the fifth inning.

Marina Esparza started for the Lions lasting three and two thirds innings allowing four runs, five hits, and three walks. In the eighth inning, it was Esparza’s bat that gave the Lions a 6-5 lead on a single scoring Stormee Galka.

The Lions couldn’t hold the lead as Central Oklahoma scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth giving the Bronchos a 7-6 lead and winning game one of the double header.

After a close game in game one, Central Oklahoma dominated the Lions in game two 11-1 and out hit Lindenwood 13-1.

Stormee Galka started on the mound for the Lions going just two innings allowing seven hits and four runs.

In the second inning, Hanna Porter homered to left field for the team’s lone run and hit. For Porter, it was her first home run of the season.

Following the series loss, Lindenwood is 16-16 on the season and will look to regroup tomorrow against conference opponent Northeastern State. The games are scheduled for 11.am and 1 p.m. in Tahlequa, Oklahoma.
