The Great Depression was a worldwide economic crisis that took place mostly during the 1930’s and began in the United States.

It is also the name of Britain-based pop band AS IT IT’s new album, which is set to drop on Aug. 10.

According to the band’s official Instagram page, the album is about the “societal romanticism of depression, told through the story of ‘The Poet,’ a man who finds himself face-to-face with death.”

“The Wounded World,” is the name of the first single released from the album on Thursday and has a sound that is totally opposite the band’s previous works “okay” and “Never Happy, Ever After,” and a video for the song was released on the same day.

According to music lyric website Genius, Patty Walters, lead singer of the band, spoke to the music magazine, Kerrang!, about the new track.

The song is a “commentary on the polarised and volatile modern reality, which we’ve allowed. The video depicts a not-so-distant dystopia, where present-day headlines and technologies are displayed in exhibits as the warning signs of an impending disaster,” according to Walters.

With lyrics such as “jet black hearts and abandoned souls, we’re all to blame for the wounded world,” and “lock us down in the catacombs, we’re all to blame for the wounded world,” it’s clear as day that the band has moved from upbeat, sappy pop songs to more emo, raw tracks that have even deeper meanings behind them.

The video is set up like a walk-through museum exhibit that occasionally shows the band performing the song. Walters is giving people a tour of the exhibit, fittingly called “The Wounded World,” and notices that people are on their phones, not paying much attention to what he is saying.

In one of the later scenes toward the end of the video, Walters has a megaphone and is screaming the bridge of the song, and it is only then when the crowd who appeared to be in their own little worlds started listening to what he had to say.
