A year and a half ago, Delta Zeta member Sierra Wilder died in a car crash outside of her hometown Foley, Missouri right after she finished her freshman year of college.
Junior, Abby Erickson was going to be Wilder’s suite mate their sophomore year. Erickson got two connecting X’s on her wrist because Wilder had the same tattoo on her ankle. To Wilder the X’s symbolized “where there is a will, there is a way,” Erickson said.
A week after Wilder died multiple people that knew her got the tattoo, but Erickson waited until Sept. 11, 2017, on Wilder’s birthday, to make sure it “wasn’t an impulse.”
Wilder’s family and friends started the Sierra Way Foundation in her honor and plan to use the money raised for community outreach.
Overall, Erickson said losing Wilder has shaped her faith in God.
