Dressed in a matching floral outfit and white sneakers for the first half of his set, Jesse McCartney wowed audience members of all ages on Monday night.

The now 31-year-old pop-star who’s most known for his 2004 song “Beautiful Soul,” 2006 song “Right Where You Want Me,” and 2008 song “Leavin’,” played a few new songs, including one that has not yet been released on streaming platforms. The unreleased song, Selfless, was towards the beginning of his set, followed by two other songs that were released in 2018, “Better With You” and “Wasted,” which were both played at the end before the encore.

McCartney came to the St. Louis area last summer in July, right next door to The Pageant at Delmar Hall. Both of the shows were nearly sold out.

Halfway through the set, McCartney paused to talk to the audience about relationships and if they’d ever regretted any decisions in regards to “calling it quits.” Most of the audience members raised their hands, to which McCartney then said he wanted to pull someone up on stage to sing to them. He pulled up a girl named Autumn and had her sit on a stool in the center of the stage.

Because it’s the beginning of a new year, McCartney also stopped the show to talk to the crowd about New Year’s Resolutions. One person wanted to get stronger to play on the football team, another wanted to get better at writing, and the last one, which McCartney said was “most important,” was someone wanting to work on loving themselves.

Before the last two songs were played, McCartney said that if anyone had told him that “the last year would be the busiest year of his touring career,” that he would tell them “they were crazy,” because he has an album on the way and has played two “nearly sold out tours” within the last year.

“Bleeding Love” which is sang by Leona Lewis, but actually written by McCartney, was one of the songs played. It was written about a girlfriend who he “almost gave up his career for at the time.”

The very last song was the one that everyone was waiting for, “Beautiful Soul,” and everyone in the room knew the words.

A Spotify playlist of McCartney’s current most popular songs can be found below.
