The Lions’ record falls to .500 with the loss to Emporia State Thursday night.

Lindenwood jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in this one before the Hornets took it from them at the 10:05 mark in the first half. They did not lose the lead for the rest of the half and went into the break ahead 42-38.

Senior Brad Newman went 7-12 from the floor in the half and scored 18 points. Sophomore Diego Womack shot 5-6 from the floor, scored 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.

Senior Julius Jackson led the Hornets with 12 points off of the bench. He was followed closely behind by senior Sawyer Glick with 9 points.

The Lions came storming out of the gates in the second half and went on an 8-3 run in the first four minutes to take back the lead. The Lions couldn’t hold the lead for long as the Hornets went on a 15-4 run to steal it back. Lindenwood was unable to counteract the run and the Hornets never looked back. The Lions lost, 85-68.

Newman ended the game with 31 points for the Lions, leading all scorers. This was Newman’s 12th game this season with at least 20 points and his sixth straight. Womack helped carry the scoring load with 15 points. He also grabbed 8 rebounds.

“I never felt we were able to get into a good rhythm offensively,” Head Coach Lance Randall said. “Brad and Diego were good on the offensive side, but after that, we pretty much struggled all night.”

Jackson led the way for the Hornets with 30 points and shot 11-13 from the free throw line. Senior Hassan Thomas also added 17 points and 12 rebounds off of the bench. Senior Kam Rowan and Senior Kooper Glick added 11 points each.

Emporia State had the advantage in points off turnovers, leading 14-9. The Lions were able to outscore the Hornets in second-chance points 13-12. The Lions also had the advantage in points in the paint 38-28. The Hornets held two major advantages in fast break points, 22-6, and bench points, 58-10.

The loss brought the Lions record to 11-11 overall and 4-6 in MIAA conference play.
