The Lindenwood men’s volleyball team fell on the road over the weekend to drop to 3-5 in MIVA matches.

On Friday, the Lions encountered Ball State and in three matches 3-0. The Lions were close to the Cardinals in the first set with two kills by Adam Brewster and a service error, but fell short for a 20-25 score.

The second and third set were different, and the Cardinals dominated the entire way to finish 16-25 and 14-25 respectively.

“We were feeling really good coming into the weekend off a winning streak, but still are struggling with consistency,” Brewster said. “Once we improved in one part of the game we would struggle in another part.”

Junior Charlie Havlin led the Lions with nine kills and five blocks and totaled 12 points in the match, followed by Brewster who notched 24 assists against the Cardinals.

The Lions had a free day on Saturday and came back on Sunday to play against nationally ranked Purdue Fort Wayne.

The first set started off slow for the Lions as the Mastodons had a string of kills and took advantage of two attack errors by the Lions to finish with a score of 15-25.

The second set the Lions pushed to keep the score close with back to back points, but the Mastodons stringed kills once again to win the second match 20-25. In the third set, the Lions lost 21-25.

“Both matches were really just all about us and not executing on our side of the net,” Brewster added.

Havlin led the Lions once again with 11.5 points, 11 kills and one assisted block. Sam Schindler scored six kills and three aces while Brewster recorded 28 assists.

The Lions will be heading to California next weekend for three matches.

“We are really going to be focusing on our serve and pass game and refocusing these next few days before we leave,” Brewster said.
