Two student representatives from Advertisers Desiring Success held a presentation on Sibley Day regarding how to market yourself to future employers. Travis Corley and Andrea Spurlock gave an hour long presentation and drew upon various resources, offering their insights and personal experiences on networking and how to obtain internships and employment.
“We want to teach individuals how to get their name out there. Prior to and during an interview, we want people to know how to sell their own personal brand,” Corley said.
Corley and Spurlock encouraged the individuals who attended the event to analyze themselves to identify what their specific brand is. The Meyers-Briggs personality test along with the SWOT analysis were recommended.
Students and faculty members were then instructed to identify the positive and negative parts of their personality based on internal and external factors. Corley and Spurlock explained how these traits were a way to analyze their competition. Corley said in the presentation that, “There’s no rule that says you can’t spy on your competition.”
The last part of the presentation focused on doing research about yourself and doing research about the companies to which you are applying. Utilizing this information could help to identify the extra steps a person needs to take to ultimately obtain their desired career.
