Lindenwood right-handed hurler Geoff Hartlieb was selected in the 29th round of the Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft last month. Hartlieb was selected 885th overall.
Hartlieb, a Highland, Illinois, product, also was selected last year — eight rounds later by the New York Mets. He currently is playing with the Bristol Pirates, a rookie-level team based in Virginia that competes in the Appalachian League.
After transferring to Lindenwood from Quincy University, Hartlieb threw a total of three complete games while averaging eight strikeouts every nine innings. He made 11 starts in 13 games pitched and also led the pitching staff in the amount of hits he gave up being for extra bases.
He was selected to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll for the two consecutive years he was at LU. He received the 2016 Keith Fietsam Scholarship along with the 2016 Lindenwood Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
Coach Doug Bletcher had nothing but positive things to say when it came to his hurler.
“He never once considered slowing down in chasing after that dream of playing professional baseball, he was a great young man and player,” Bletcher said.
