A Lindenwood professor was acknowledged for his work in the community at the inaugural Seeds of Hope Gala last month in St. Louis County.

Patrick Walker received the Symbol of Hope Award from the St. Francis Community Services organization. the honor is given to “an individual coming from humble means who has gone on to create a large and positive impact in the community.”

Walker was raised in Winston-Salem, N.C., by his grandparents and was the first of his family to graduate college. He holds an MBA and a law degree, has worked as a business lawyer and a professor, as well as 20 plus years of expertise in educational and organizational management and community engagement.

But Walker states that he does not care for accolades and awards though he was quite honored to be the recipient of such a prestigious award.

“It comes from the spirit,” Walker said. “Hopefully I can inspire other people from similar circumstances who are looking to make an impact.”

Walker has been recognized for his work with nonprofit organizations, small businesses as well as Fortune 500 companies and helps them work through critical decision- making processes and help them achieve financial stability and efficiency. Walker also works with numerous programs such as YMCA, Empower Missouri, Youth in Need and is also the president of The Small Business Institute.

“I was deeply humbled and shocked,” Walker said. “It was an affirming experience that I am truly thankful for. I will continue to provide hope for my community and to those who are trying to make a change.”

Walker also serves as chair of the Lindenwood University’s recently formed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. He wants people to understand diversity and the each other along with their differing perspectives.
