Student commuters should be aware of traffic jams due to lane closures on eastbound Interstate 70 at Fifth Street this week.
The Missouri Department of Transportation has shutdown two of the eastbound lanes on the Blanchette Bridge for bridge inspection until Friday. Crew members are inspecting the bridge’s truss, substructure and girders. Their work will be from from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Jim Wright, MO-DOT’s Area Engineer for the St. Charles area said that the inspection should not take too long to complete.
“We are required by the federal government to inspect our bridges once every two years,” he said. We have 10,000 state-owned bridges and 14,000 local bridges to inspect. We are not expecting a big delay during off-peak time.”
The department encourages motorists to take Route 364 or Route 370 as alternatives to avoid traffic jams. For more information, visit www.modot.org.
