Lindenwood University started its 2016 United Way campaign by launching a Youtube video announcement on Sept. 30.
Lindenwood University President Michael Shonrock and Ryan Guffey, the United Way chair and vice president for student development, presented on the video encouraging people to contribute for a good cause.
The United Way of St. Charles’ mission is to “provide a program of health and human services that is comprehensive, efficient and effective.” They also work toward “advancing the common good by funding programs that target education, income and health”, according to their website.
The Lindenwood campaign officially began on Monday, Oct. 3 with a goal to fundraise $18,270 by the end date Oct. 14. The sum commemorates Lindenwood’s founding year of 1827.
The United Way campaign raised $17,016.27 last year, which was almost $2,000 over their 2015 goal, according to a Lindenwood news letter.
Ryan Guffey said on the video that the United Way supports 178 agencies in St. Louis metro area.
The following supported organizations are in the St. Charles region:
- Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County

Shonrock said on the video that many of the organizations work toward various ways of support for children and youth, including child care, education, adoption, abuse prevention, mentoring, counseling and even recreation.
“Each of these and other organizations aid deserving individuals in need,” Guffey said. “Please join your fellow employees by making a pledge to help those in our community.”
