The Lindenwood women’s field hockey team won its first game of the season Friday, beating the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks 3-1.
According to the Lindenwood Lions Athletics website, forward Greta Banholzer scored Lindenwood’s first goal of the season, assisted by midfielder Noor Fons. Banholzer, a senior, also scored another goal later in the first half, making both of the shots she attempted that afternoon.
Though goalie Skylar Starbeck made seven stops, IUP scored one goal on her early in the second half. However, Bridget Hoogendijk got the Lions’ final goal, bringing the score to 3-1.
After defeating the Crimson Hawks, the Lady Lions will next face the Bellarmine Knights at noon on Sunday at home.
The team is projected to finish first at conference championships this year by coaches in the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
