The Lindenwood men’s soccer team lost its first MIAA matchup of the season 2-0 to Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on Friday night.
RiverHawk James Doyle scored the first goal of the game in the 36th minute on an assist from Ismael Serratos. This was Doyle’s first goal on the season.
The Lions went into halftime trailing 1-0.
The game would remain 1-0 until the 88th minute when Joe Garcia converted the penalty kick giving Northeastern a 2-0 lead with two minutes remaining.
Goalie Tim Licht made 6 of 8 saves on Friday night.
The Lions were outshot by the RiverHawks 15 to nine with only four shots on target for Lindenwood, according to Lindenwood Athletics.
The leaders in shots on goal for the Lions were senior Stefan Andric and junior Johannes Brendle with two apiece, according to Lindenwood Athletics.
The Lions only had one corner kick on the night compared to the Riverhawks’ five.
After winning three in a row, Lindenwood fell to 4-4 on the season with this loss and Northeastern State went to 4-4.
The Lions’ road trip continues as they will be in Bolivar, Missouri, against Southwest Baptist University at 2 p.m. on Sunday in an MIAA matchup.
