Two goals and three assists from senior forward Brittania Gillanders helped the women’s ice hockey team to a 7-0 win against Lindenwood-Belleville in an exhibition game Tuesday at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville.
Gillanders was just one of six players who scored against the Lynx. In the first period, sophomore Courtney Gansky and junior Ally Larson scored, and in the second period, it was freshman Megan Wagner.
In the final period of the game, the Lions scored four more times. Gillanders scored twice, and junior Shannon Morris-Reade and freshman Lillian Marchant each added a goal.
Jolene deBruyn and Sarah McGall shared the net for the Lions and each made one save during the contest.
“I think we played very well, and I hope we can keep this up against other teams in our division,” said coach Scott Spencer.
Unfortunately, the exhibition win does not count in the standings, and the Lions remain 2-7-1 on the season.
The next game is the first of a two-game series against No. 6 ranked University of Minnesota. The games will be played at 2 p.m. Nov. 25 and 26 at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.
