Ivy Reynolds from Lion Pride Sports at Lindenwood University spoke with Joe Kosciw, head coach for the men’s volleyball team, during an interview before the team’s season began.
This segment is part five of a 10-part series of interviews with the head coaches of spring teams.
The season so far
The Lindenwood men’s volleyball team started its season by sweeping the “Off the Block: Grow the Game Challenge” tournament this past weekend in Nashville, Tennessee. This is the first time that NCAA volleyball has ever been played in Nashville. All matches were held Jan. 12-14 in the Allen Arena at Lipscomb University.
Lindenwood started the weekend with a match against Erskine College. Lindenwood defeated Erskine 25-14 in set one, 25-19 in set two and 25-22 in the third set. The following day after the 3-0 match win, the team took on North Greenville University and won in all three sets. Lindenwood came out on top 25-11 in set one, 25-22 in set two and 25-17 in set three. Finally, on day three of the tournament the Lions defeated Barton College 3-0 with scores of 28-26, 25-19 and 25-13.
While the Lions’ undefeated weekend was not a part of Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association conference play, it still left them with a 3-0 start on the season.
The team’s first game of conference play will be a home match against McKendree University on Thursday, Jan. 18, in the Hyland Arena.
