An off-duty St. Louis County police officer who was subdued with a taser after he fled from a traffic stop early Feb. 4, has a Lindenwood connection.
Anthony Darryl Jones, 24, studied at Lindenwood from fall 2011 to fall 2015, but did not graduate, according to university officials.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch gave this account of the incident:
City officers saw Jones driving the wrong direction down Cottage Avenue in the Jeff Vander-Lou neighborhood at 2:43 a.m. They tried to pull him over, but he sped away.
As Jones tried to make a turn, his car struck a utility pole near the intersection of East Prairie and St. Louis avenues. Jones refused to comply with the officers’ orders and had to be subdued with a Taser before he was arrested.
A breath test showed Jones’ blood alcohol content at 0.084; the legal limit is 0.080.
An incident report stated that no St. Louis officers were injured during the incident. Jones was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and felony resisting arrest, according to court records.
Jones has been with the St. Louis County Police Department for about one year, and was suspended without pay, the Post-Dispatch reported.
He was freed from jail after posting a percentage of a $15,000 bond, according to court records. Jones must wear a scram device, which tests for alcohol consumption, until March 19.
