Be prepared to transport back in time to the reign of Henry VIII at Sibley Hall’s Renaissance event on April 14.
Sibley Community Adviser Jacqueline Brown partnered with the St. Louis Renaissance Festival to put on the event. Brown, a cast member for the festival, plays Henry VIII’s daughter, “Bloody” Mary Tudor.
The St. Louis Renaissance Faire is set in the time of Henry VIII’s reign, so his wife and many of his mistresses will be in attendance at the Lindenwood event. Unfortunately, the king will not be able to make it.
Besides the English Royal family members, Brown said attendees should expect to meet the French Royal family, guards, pirates, gypsies and even a court jester.
At the event there will be food, Renaissance era music and dancing, but be warned, audience members will be pulled in to dance with the actors. Brown also said there will be a photo booth where people can have their photo professionally taken with crowns, swords and other era pieces.
Brown also said to be prepared with a preferred Royal Family before coming to the event because actors will expect you to pick a side. The two families are constantly quarreling, so everyone must get involved.
The actors will be interacting with the guests, and they will be handing out coupons for the Renaissance Festival this fall.
While it isn’t mandatory for guests, Brown said that people are encouraged to dress up.
“If you’ve never been to this sort of thing, it’s definitely an experience,” Brown said.
The event starts at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 14 on the back deck of Sibley Hall.
