Three current and former staff members of Legacy magazine/Lindenlink.com have been named as finalists in the College Media Association’s annual Pinnacle Awards.
The national awards honor the best college media organizations and individual work. The contest is open to student work produced for any college media organization, including print, broadcast and online outlets, during an academic year.
Essi Auguste Virtanen, the former editor-in-chief who graduated in December 2017, is a finalist in the Best Investigative Story category for her article, “Breaking the Silence About Mental Health Issues In College.” The article explores the stigmas surrounding mental health issues among college students and the services available to help them.
J.T. Buchheit, former chief copy editor who graduated in May, and Matt Hampton, who will serve as sports editor this school year, are finalists in the Best General News category for their article, “Lindenwood Case Puts Focus on Consent, HIV,” about a former Lindenwood wrestler who did not disclose his HIV status to multiple partners and later was convicted of five felonies.
Both articles also won awards from the Missouri College Media Association. They ran in the fall 2017 print editions of Legacy magazine, and are now available at Lindenlink.com through the links above.
The winners of the Pinnacle Awards will be announced at CMA’s Fall National College Media Convention, scheduled Oct. 25-28 in Louisville, Kentucky.
