Lindenwood women’s volleyball split two road matches in Illinois this weekend.
The Lions competed on Friday night against the McKendree Bearcats in Lebanon, Illinois, to win 3-1. On Saturday night, the Lions rallied again to take on the University of Illinois-Springfield, but fell short in a 3-0 match.
During the McKendree match, sophomore Alexa Pressley posted her career-best record for kills with 14 as well as four blocks, and led the Lions to win three sets with games of 25-17, 25-18, 19-25 and 25-22.
According to the Lindenwood athletics website, middle hitter Sadie Kosciuk led the team as well with five blocks, three of which were solo, and posted 11 kills. Freshman Hannah Borchelt followed Kosciuk, posting 11 kills. The last Lion to join the double-digit kills was Bailey Dvorak with ten.
Illinois-Springfield won its conference opener match against McKendree on Saturday morning and kept the energy going to defeat Lindenwood later in the day.
The match consisted of three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-23, all in favor of the Prairie Stars. Pressley hit the double-digit numbers again with ten kills, followed by Allyson Clancy with 28 assists and Sara Wagenknecht with 12 digs.
The Lions are now overall 8-2 for the season and will have a busy weekend as they travel to Maryville, Missouri, to take on Northwest Missouri State University on Friday, followed by Missouri Western State University on Saturday and finally University of Central Missouri on Sunday.
