Here is a summary of important events in Lindenwood sports this past week and the upcoming home games to anticipate.
This weekend saw dominant victories for football and women’s soccer, as well as road wins by the men’s soccer, swimming, field hockey and women’s volleyball teams. Looking forward, this week will bring home contests for both football and soccer.
Games you missed
FOOTBALL: The Lions picked up a 51-13 win against Missouri Southern State on Saturday night. Erik Henneman broke a school-record for touchdown receptions in a game with four. Running back Cam Sanders added two rushing touchdowns, and defensive back Darrius Williams led the Lions defensively in tackles with 15.
WOMEN’S SOCCER: On Monday night, the Lions lost their home debut 3-1 to Maryville University. Morgan Weller scored the only goal for Lindenwood. Four days later, the team played Drury University and captured a 4-0 win. Emily Schneider was responsible for a goal. Weller scored two goals and added an assist. Katie Richter scored one goal and also added an assist. Lastly, Lindenwood defeated Missouri S&T 1-0 in a Sunday morning matchup. The lone goal came from Olivia Callipari assisted by Weller.
MEN’S SOCCER: In a Tuesday night matchup against No. 3 Rockhurst University, the Lions were shut out 1-0. On a rainy Friday night, the game concluded in similar fashion, as they lost 3-0 to Maryville University. The men finally earned a win after beating Christian Brothers University 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. Thomas Hutcheson and Joshua Scholl both scored goals unassisted; Fernando Cordero also scored on a Leon Silva assist.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING: The women competed at the St. Louis Showcase last Saturday. Simone de Rijcke placed first in the 400-meter freestyle. Shelby Quinn had a first-place finish in the 50-meter backstroke. The Lions had a first-place team finish in the 500-meter freestyle relay.
MEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING: The men also competed at the St. Louis Showcase last Saturday. Justin Winnett took home first place in the 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke. Christian Vasquez placed first in the 200-meter individual medley. Zach Linder had a first-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle. Jan Hanzal placed first in the 400-meter freestyle. Lindenwood finished first-place in 500-meter freestyle team relay.
FIELD HOCKEY: The Lions traveled to New York for their Friday and Saturday matchups against Molloy College and Franklin Pierce University. In the game against Molloy, the women won 3-1. Noor Fons, Bridget Hoogendijk and Pauline Terwindt all attributed to individual goals. The Lions also won against FPU, beating them 3-2 with goals from Fons, Jessie Londono and Mary Clare Banholzer.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: The Lions played two opponents this weekend. The first was against McKendree University, where the women won 3-1. Alexa Pressly had a team-high 14 kills. Allyson Clancy finished with a season-high 49 assists. Sage Wagenknecht also posted 13 digs. LU’s second opponent was that of University of Illinois-Springfield, where they lost 3-0. Pressly again had a team-high in kills with 10, while Clancy posted 28 assists.

Football vs. University of Central Oklahoma – Saturday, Sept. 15 | 7 p.m. | Hunter Stadium
This Saturday, Sept. 15, the Lions (1-1) will host Central Oklahoma (0-2) at 7 p.m. for their Family Day game.
Women’s soccer vs. Missouri Western State University – Friday, Sept. 14 | 7 p.m. | Hunter Stadium
Women’s soccer vs. University of Central Missouri – Saturday, Sept. 4 | 1:30 p.m. | Hunter Stadium
The women (2-1-1) play two home games this weekend: This Friday, Sept. 14, they host Missouri Western State (2-2) at 7 p.m. While Saturday’s Sept. 15 contest is against the No. 1 team in the nation, Central Missouri (4-0), at 1:30 p.m.
Men’s soccer vs. Harding University – Sunday, Sept. 16 | 4 p.m. | Hunter Stadium
The only home game this week for the men (2-2-1) is against Harding University (3-0-1). The contest will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, at 4 p.m.
