Lindenwood women’s soccer spent homecoming weekend tallying 1-0 losses to Emporia State and Washburn.
The Lions traveled to Emporia State Friday looking to push their 6-6-2 record over the .500 mark.
The game against the Hornets was a tightly contested match throughout the entire game. Sophomore Lauren Greenstein got the start in net for the Lions, while freshman Jillian Patton drew the start for Emporia State.
There was not much action in the first half, as the Lions were outshot by the Hornets 8-4. Greenstein made four saves for the Lions while Patton made one for the Hornets.
The second half was much of the same, as the game was scoreless until the 80th minute, when freshman Aislinn Hughes gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead. This ended up being the only goal of the game for either side, and Emporia State would win 1-0.
The Hornets outshot the Lions 17-6 overall, and 8-2 in shots on goal.
The second of the Lions’ two weekend matchups was against Washburn on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Megan Swanson started this one in net for the Lions while freshman Bailee Russell got the start for the Ichabods.
The first half of this game was scoreless for both sides. Washburn outshot Lindenwood 6-4 overall. However, the Lions had the edge in shots on goal, leading 4-2.
The tie was broken early in the second half when freshman Josie Rimmer scored for the Ichabods to give them a 1-0 lead. This ended up being the only goal of the contest for either side, and gave Lindenwood their second 1-0 loss of the weekend.
Washburn outshot the Lions 16-6 in the game. Russell made four saves for the Ichabods while Swanson made seven for the Lions.
The Lions end the weekend with a record of 6-8-2 overall and 3-5-1 in MIAA play. With only two games left in the season, it is not possible for the Lions to end with a winning record.
Next for the Lions, they have a rematch against University of Central Missouri, who they lost to earlier in the season 3-0. The game is Friday Oct.26, at 7 p.m.
