People of all ages lined the streets of the heritage side of campus for this year’s Dark Carnival, which had some new activities.
At Phi Sigma Sigma’s booth, the crowning of the first ever king and queen took place. Students were encouraged to submit photos of themselves, and voting took place at the booth.
The king was Keaton Jones, and the queen was Ivy Tinnin.
Housed in Cobbs Hall, “Coulrophobia” was the theme of this year’s haunted house, which featured clowns. Coulrophobia, by definition, is the extreme or irrational fear of clowns.
Freshman Jessie Prowell, dressed up in a Winnie the Pooh onesie, said she was excited about the haunted house before she found out what the theme was, but because her friends wanted to go through, she went anyway.

An escape room, housed in Parker Hall, was another attraction for guests to try.
For people who weren’t fans of haunted houses, there was an obstacle course from the National Guard, a zombie maze and the live band 8 South, which covered songs from artists like Michael Jackson.
Among the 75 vendors, some of them offered games for a chance to win coupons for free food. Potbelly Sandwich Shop had a balloon game where guests could throw a dart at a balloon for a chance to win a coupon for a free food item. Chick-Fil-A was handing out coupons for one free sandwich, and Qdoba was handing out free chips and queso.
Along with the balloon game, other family-friendly games available included a duck pond, a ring toss game, a basketball game and a game put on by the National Broadcasting Society at Lindenwood, where CDs had to be thrown into buckets. If someone got a certain number of CDs into a bucket, they were able to pick out a free CD from a bin.
Other booths were promoting student clubs and showing off their work. Near Roemer Hall, a booth gave away booklets of scary stories written by students in creative writing classes.
